UK 3 PEAKS CHALLENGE

Since 2002 the Fire and Ice team have entered the annual UK 3 Peaks Challenge, which involves running up the three highest summits in Scotland, England and Wales within 24 hours - this comprises Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon. There must be at least 4 runners who remain within 10m of each other. The Fire and Ice team have 5 runners and 2 support drivers.

The event involves a standard 11 hours driving between the 3 summits and this time is added to the overall time. In 2008 the team came 3rd (again) out of 140 teams and again won a Platinum Medal with a total time of 16hrs 25mins. This is less than 5½ hours running up and down the three mountains!!

The breakdown figures in 2008 were:

·         Ben Nevis         2hrs 24mins

·         Scafell Pike      1hr 56mins

·         Snowdon           1hr 05min
