Fire and Ice all started when the Fire Service Sports and Athletics Association (FSSAA) were offered the opportunity to participate in an expedition to the Base Camp of the world's highest mountain, Mount Everest, with Charity Challenge in aid of 'Show Racism the Red Card'. 

On their first expedition to Everest, 18 people participated, including 8 firefighters, sparking the name 'Fire and Ice', 'Fire' refering to the fire officers, and 'Ice' to the mountains.

With the completion of the expedition to Everest Base Camp, 'Fire and Ice' set themsleves the challenge of eventually climbing the highest mountain on each continental plate, the 'Seven Summits'. Having most recently climbed Denali (Mt McKinley) in Alaska, and previously Aconcagua (South America), Kilimanjaro (Africa), Elbrus (Russia) and Carstensz Pyramid (Oceania), members of the team have already completed five.

Of course, Fire an Ice also participate in many other climbing and trekking trips, both at home and abroad. For example, team members have climbed in the High Atlas mountains in Morocco, Mount Blanc in the French Alps, Triglav in the Slovenian Alps and as far away as Mt Kinabalu in Borneo.

Our concept remains unchanged with the main focus being Life's Challenges and Equality & Diversity. We deliver this theme through our voluntary work in schools and with other organisations using our experiences, anecdotes, factual information and beautiful photography from our high altitude and cultural experiences. We use several leadership models and terminology including ‘Inveniam Viam aut Faciam’ – 'We’llfind a way or make a way'.
